Psalm 119:11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.

What are we filling our hearts with?

The brain filters it and it settles in the heart. You are constantly filling your heart. It will keep you heart soft or it will harden it. Worship will soften it a little but will not change you and keep it softened if you are not careful about what you put in your heart.

The Word links to everything

Red is Worship/Heart.  Everything flows from Worship.  You start attending worship in the congregation. Then you are worshiping along side others and then you are in daily worship.

Blue is Word/Head.  The Word of God… the truth… the living water!  You  may start attending Bible Studies, then teaching Bible Studies to a daily student of the Word.

Green is Walk/Habits.  Through our walk we create relationships and the best way to do that at Connect Church is to join a Connect Group.  The journey starts by joining a group, then leading a group and then creating relationships outside of church.  Spreading the gospel by connecting with others around you.  Neighbors, co-workers… cashier at Wal-Mart.  Help People find and follow Jesus!

Yellow is World/Hands.  With our hands we can serve.  You are more than a volunteer you are a team of servants for the Kingdom.  You are expanding the Kingdom by filling backpacks with food, teaching Connect kids classes or helping someone in the building from the parking lot.  We are all the hands and feet of Christ.  You start this by joining a serve team, leading a serve team and then everything you do becomes serving others.

Serving becomes Worship and the cycle starts over.   We are in a constant state of change because “GROWING PEOPLE CHANGE”.

Jeremiah, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit described the heart as wicked and deceitful. Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? The things we say come from our heart – Jesus said Luke 6:45 “The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” We are to keep (protect) our heart – Proverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

1. watch what we see

2. watch what we hear

3. watch what we allow to influence us

Every input is an influnce

One of the most powerful habits that you can develop is to devote yourself to study the Bible. As you put scripture in your mind it will come to your mind when you need it most. This is a ministry of the Holy Spirit.

Scripture helps us resist tempation

We have a good example of this with Jesus in the wilderness. When the devil tempted Him, He quoted scripture every time He was tempted. Granted, He did write the book, so He did have a little advantage over us. But He memorized the scripture. The Bible tells us that scripture helps us deal with temptation. The more we take in the less we sin…

Benifts to Scripture

Helps us make decisions

Psa 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Long and short… There and here! Scripture creates a situation where God has the ability use scripture that we have processed and worked through to light our path at the time when we need a light. However, if we’ve only read it and not applied it to our lives, we may not use it correctly.

Strengthens me when I am weak

Psa 119:41-43 Let your steadfast love come to me, O Lord, your salvation according to your promise; then shall I have an answer for him who taunts me, for I trust in your word. And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth, for my hope is in your rules.

Comforts me when I am sad

Jer 15:16 Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart, for I am called by your name, O Lord, God of hosts.

A Bible on the shelf does no good at all. It has all the answers for life but if you don’t put it into you mind, so it stays with you it doesn’t do you nearly as much good. So the more you can get the bible into your mind the stronger you’re going to be.

It helps me witness

1 Pet 3:15, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.

Witnessing begins in the heart. A Worshipper is a Student of Scripture. A Student of Scripture is a Worshipper. They both lead into one another!!!

A worshipper witnesses to the Glory of God. A Bible Student witnesses to the Truth of God. Both are essential as we are to be both in Spirit and Truth. Worry is negative meditation. Replace worry with the Word and you have positive meditation.

The truth of the matter is we become what we worship and whatever it is that we think about the most. What you focus your thought on is what you become.

But if you want to become like Christ, you’ve got to spend time thinking about Him. Rom 12:2, Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. The meditation and application of the Truths are where the transforming power comes from. Spirit is transforms and renewed in an instant. Body will be renewed at Judgment But the mind has to be renewed every day!!!!

John 15:7, If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.

What was the condition? If you are living in My word and my words are living in you then you can ask what you want, and it will come true. The more you know Christ, the more your thoughts become His thoughts. So you have confidence when you pray because you know what you re praying is according to God’s will.

People think, “well I can ask whatever I want and God will give it to me”. That is not really true. If we meditate on the things that make us more like Jesus then the things that we ask will not be outside His will. That is the key.

Joshua 1:8 Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

This is the only promise of success in the Bible where the word success is actually there. If you do this then you will have success. It’s tied into application of God’s Word. Some people would look at that and think it’s kind of a magic wand — if I meditate then there’s a presto-chango stuff taking place and I m going to be successful. That’s not it at all. It goes back to what you think about is what you become. If you re thinking about the Lord Jesus and His ways and becoming like Him then you re going to have success and live in a successful way. You re going to love people instead of reacting negatively to them. You re going to be honest in business and God prospers those that are honest and have integrity. You will share the hope that you are meditating upon! You will see people come to Christ as they come to you! It creates incredible influence for His Kingdom!
